GTA: Vice City is Rockstar's 2002 open-world crime game, set in a Miami-styled coastal city in 1986 and first released for the PS2. The Vice City web edition on quenq.com runs the complete game in a browser tab through WebAssembly, built on the reverse-engineered reVC engine. Every mission from the original release is here, and nothing needs to be installed — the engine loads in seconds and streams the map as you drive through it. The story follows Tommy Vercetti, a mobster who walks out of prison after fifteen years and is sent to Vice City by his old boss Sonny Forelli to oversee a drug deal. The deal is ambushed, the money and the product are gone, and Tommy is left answerable for both. From there the game is about working back up: taking jobs for the city's criminal outfits, cutting out rivals, buying businesses, and ending up with an empire that answers to no one. The city itself is the other main character — beaches, malls, docks, mansions and a downtown skyline bathed in neon, with hidden packages to hunt and radio stations playing 1980s pop, rock and electro. Between story missions you can drive, fly, boat, or just cause trouble and see how long you last. A few practical notes. The engine leans on your GPU, so hardware acceleration has to be enabled in the browser or the screen stays black. The original game was tuned for 30 FPS, and unlocked framerates can bend the physics enough to make certain missions unwinnable — if that happens, set the FPS limit to 30 in the game menu. A built-in save manager handles progress: it accepts .b save files from the PC and PS2 versions and can export backups of your own saves. Most games work on phones and tablets. Touch controls take over where the game supports them. If a title feels awkward on a small screen, a laptop or desktop usually handles it better.
