Needle In A Haystack is a free first-person browser game built on one absurd task: a haystack of millions of pieces of hay, ten needles buried somewhere inside it, and you. Developer Nas Nakarus introduced it in August 2026 as a game where you have to find a needle in a haystack of 5,000,000 pieces, and the idea spread fast enough that copycat versions were on sale before the official one arrived. This is the original browser version, and it runs free in any modern desktop browser. Every run works the same way. You walk up to the pile, press in, and start pulling hay apart. A needle can only be grabbed at arm's reach, so this is not a game of scanning from a distance. You force your way into the hay, watch for a shimmer that shifts from gold toward red as you get closer, and click the moment steel shows. Ten needles come one at a time, each buried deeper than the last, and a timer runs the whole way. Pull the tenth one out and the run ends, with your time going up on the daily board. Needles earn coins, five apiece, and a merchant by the pile sells two tools. The leaf blower clears hay in wide sweeps, which matters more than it sounds, because wading through deep hay cuts your pace to a shuffle and a blown tunnel stays open. The needle compass points at the needle you are currently hunting. Nothing here finds the needle for you. The whole project began as a satire of grindy simulation games, and it keeps the grind on purpose; whether that reads as serene or stressful is the argument players have been having since it went viral. The browser version is the developer's own build, a 3D scene rendered with WebGL. A normal desktop draws about a million and a half straws at once, weaker hardware gets a lighter count, and the first load takes a few seconds while the pile is built. Desktop play wants a keyboard and mouse, since the camera runs on pointer lock. Phones and tablets are covered too, with a virtual stick, drag-to-look, and two buttons instead of keys. Past the solo run there is a hardcore mode and a lobby where everyone digs the same pile at once. Needle In A Haystack on this page is the original free web version, served straight from the developer's site; this page embeds it and hosts nothing. It has nothing to do with football. No download, no account.

Most games work on phones and tablets. Touch controls take over where the game supports them. If a title feels awkward on a small screen, a laptop or desktop usually handles it better.
